Safety Briefing

A pre-regatta safety briefing will be held on Sunday 17 March at 4pm in the theatre at the Twizel Events Centre, Market Place, Twizel.

A roll will be recorded. Attendance at this meeting by the School's Adult Safety Officer is compulsory for those schools wishing to compete at the regatta.

If a different person other than the noted Safety Officer as shown on rowIT attends the briefing, then that person is deemed to have taken over the Safety Officer for the entire regatta.

As the regatta starts on Monday, there is NO opportunity for any further safety briefings if you miss this one so it is imperative every school has a representative attend.

LAST MINUTE ACCOMMODATION NEEDED?

Self-contained motorhomes and caravans are allowed in designated areas for a fee of $30 per night. Overnight stay passes can be purchased from the Regatta Secretary's office. Please contact Peter Midgley 0274 389 595 or Dan Steven 022 313 9367 for more information.

Training Information

Supervised Pre Regatta Training

Lake is closed from 10.30am - 1.30pm for the parade and opening ceremony.

Other Permitted Training

Communication

During the Aon Maadi Regatta, communication will be of the utmost importance so it is important to know where to get the most up to date information from.

Rowing NZ will post any delays, updates, announcements etc. on our Facebook page.

Trophies

Please ensure that all trophies for the Maadi Regatta you have on hand, are engraved accordingly, repaired (if they have taken a tumble), polished and returned.

They can be dropped off at the South Island Rowing Secretary's office before or at the regatta.

NZSSRA AGM

The NZSSRA AGM will be held straight after the safety briefing on Sunday 17 March at 5pm.

All NZSSRA member Principals will be contacted so they can provide the name of their delegate if they are not attending themselves.

It is important that everyone who is nominated as a delegate attend the AGM so a quorum is met.

Fire Ban

Please note: there is a fire ban currently in place in the Mackenzie Basin which includes Twizel.

There are to be no gas or open flame BBQ's in school tents while attending the Aon Maadi Regatta please. Electric BBQ's are permitted under certain conditions.

Coxswains & Deadweight

Coxswains are to weigh-in in either a row suit or shorts and singlet. Additional items may be worn when racing but are not part of the weigh-in process.

The dead-weight must be of a solid substance (not sand, water or gravel) and not be attached to the person. Where the deadweight is made up of several items, these must be tied together with no long tapes extending from the mass, or contained in a sealed non absorbent bag.

Parade Information

On Sunday 17 March, the Lake will close at 10.30am so all morning training will need to be completed by then.

The lake will re-open for training at 1.30pm.

Livestreaming

Our three school regattas (NISS, SISS and Aon Maadi Regatta) are sanctioned events by School Sport NZ.

By sanctioning these events, School Sport NZ ensures a wide range of quality sport opportunities are accessible to the school sector and, importantly, that schools can have confidence in sending students.

For 2024 and onward a condition of sanctioning will be that ALL event providers must adhere to the following specific clauses:

Please note: This only applies to U15 events, not to other events where U15 students might be competing in such as the U18 novice events.

Can each school rowing committee please communicate and remind this information to their U15 parents.

If you have any queries regarding this livestreaming policy, please contact Nicki Paterson from School Sport NZ.
