Christchurch Quake Relief Programme Sales & other initiatives

This year $3 from the sale of each Souvenir Programme will go to the Canterbury Rowing Association to help their efforts to re-build rowing in Christchurch.

The school rowing community has also been quick to help out in other ways. In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake hosting offers flowed in from right around the country. Auckland, Hawkes Bay, Nelson and Otago were just a few of the regions who volunteered to provide school rowing squads the ability to relocate. Similar offers saw St Andrews College and Marian College billeted with St Pauls Collegiate and Tauranga Girls Colleges respectively, which meant they competed at the 2011 Aon North Island Champs, and St Bedes headed for Blenheim.

These are not the only initiatives to help. Earlier this month Onslow College held a fund-raiser and were able to contribute $1500 from that to help Christchurch rowing schools; the funds were passed on to Avonside Girls High School during Maadi. Onslow College would like to challenge other schools to rise to the occasion and find a way to support the Christchurch schools.

In addition to thanking Onlsow College the Avonside Rowers Parent Committee also wishes to pass on a big heartfelt thank you to MacCleans College, Auckland who billeted their seven remaining rowers for approximately two weeks prior to Maadi and provided them with coaching and rowing facilities.
