Number of events per student
The Schools Committee continues to make the following recommendation:
School age rowers should only be racing 2 events at a Championships regatta. A few rowers could be considered for 3 events; none should be doing more.
In reaching the recommendation advice was sought from physiologists, leading elite coaches and the NZ Secondary School Sports Council. The Schools Committee will continue to monitor the number of entries per student this season.
Since 2024 the regatta has had per-rower entry limits, but the above recommendation remain relevant.
Entry limits
The entry limiits remain unchanged from 2024. The following entry limits will apply:
- Maximum of 3 events per rower, a 4th event is allowed provided at least one event is for eights/octuples.
- Maximum of 2 crews per school in each event for singles, doubles, and pairs events. That rises to 3 crews in quads and fours events. There is no limit in eights and octuples events.
Schools must also be aware the compressed nature of this regatta means there should be no expectation any student who is entered in more than one event will have sufficient time available to compete in all of those events.
Note: per rower limits will not rise during supplementary entries, which are only limited late entries. They do not create new opportunities to enter.
SSNZ School Team Eligibility criteria limits students "new" to a school
The SSNZ School Team Eligibility criteria limits were last revised with effect 2018. An article about the SSNZ School Team Eligibility criteria is available to help members assess whether or not each of their students is considered new to their school. Schools are limited to 3 "new" students in an eight and 1 "new" student in other boats ("new" students are those who've swapped schools or come from overseas and looks back over the past 2 years). There is also a limit of 2 students with a SSNZ-issued PCRE per crew (1 in singles!).
ENTRIESOpening February
NZSSRA's online regatta entry system will open for entries in February and entries will close a fortnight before the regatta. Member schools will be sent a notice and copy of the regatta Conditions when entries open.
Meanwhile the online regatta entry system is open for roster maintenance. Schools are strongly encouraged to log in for Roster Maintenance and tidy up their roster of students before starting entries. That is becuase doing this while making regatta entries considerably slows down the process. Please pay special attention to the "SSNZ critical details" tab of Roster Maintenance, which shows if any critical details are missing from students' profiles. In particular, new students are likely to need their SSNZ School Team Eligibility criteria set.
Passwords for online regatta entry are held by Member Schools' Sports Coordinators (schools should contact the Manager regarding misplaced passwords.)
Fees
Entry fees (exclusive of GST) for the regatta were set by members at the 2024 AGM: 1X $21, 2X/2- $23, 4X+/4+ $32, 8X+/8+ $44, amenity $27 per student.
Live results via rowIT
Live results will be available for the regatta. Results will be able to be found on the rowIT website: rowit.nz/siss2025/results

Keep a watch on both regattas for indicators of who may claim the top spot at Maadi!
