Prizes for under-18 single scull champions in association with Outward Bound

Outward Bound donated 21 day Outward Bound course for the winners of the boys and girls Under 18 Single Sculls, at Aon Maadi '09.

"This is a wonderful prize for any young athlete and the experience we have seen from the athletes in the national squad who have attended Outward Bound courses is that they have benefitted enormously, said Rowing New Zealand and Aon Maadi Cup media and communications manager Richard Gee.

Established in 1962, OB still operates from its original location, Anakiwa, in the Marlborough Sounds. Anakiwa (near Picton) is regarded as the most perfectly situated Outward Bound school in the world. The natural timbered buildings merge gracefully into the curve of the bay and are backed by native bush.

A long jetty stretches to where the school's small fleet of cutters are at anchor. The 'classrooms' of the school are the native bush, mountains, rivers and seaways of Marlborough. The Outward Bound Trust of New Zealand is a member of Outward Bound International. This was founded by Kurt Hahn in Wales in 1941. There are 42 member countries.

Other rowers who have benefitted greatly from such courses include the current NZ Lightweight double, Peter Taylor and Storm Uru, and Under 23 World title holders Nathan Cohen and Graham Oberlin-Brown.

Maadi Programme Competition Progammes cost $10, purchase at the regatta

The entry form for the programme competition is only available from the Aon Maadi '09 Programme, and the official entry form must be used.

Simply fill out the details required and place your entry in the box located in the Aon Maadi Village, at the Cambridge i Site stand in the Water Sports Centre, by 2pm Saturday April 4, 2009.

The draws will take place after the presentations are made on Saturday afternoon. Prizes are:

• a pair of Wintech sculls, courtesy of Wintech Racing.
• a $500 voucher towards a new Concept II Ergometer.
• a mountain bike from Velo Sport Performance Cycling, Cambridge, valued at $849.
• a subscription to New Zealand Geographic magazine.

Aon Maadi '09 Tee Shirt Competition in association with Croker Oars

Conditions of Entry

1. The competition is open to all schools that enter crews at Aon Maadi '09, one entry per school.
2. Entries take the form of a tee shirt that is being worn casually by the school's rowers, during the regatta. (Not row suits).
3. The name "Maadi" must be included on the Tee Shirt.
4. The logo of the principal regatta sponsor, Aon, must be on the tee shirt. The logo is attached.
5. The use of the words Maadi and Aon must not bring the regatta sponsor, the NZSSRA, or the sport of rowing, into disrepute.
6. Tee shirt entries are to be with the Regatta Secretary in the Don Rowlands Tower, by noon on Wednesday April 1, 2009. They are to be submitted in a clean plastic bag with the name of the school attached to the shirt, and on the bag, and the contact details of the person in charge, with a cell phone number. They may not be returned.
7. Entries may be shown on the regatta website.
8. A judging panel will be the sole adjudicators.
9. The winning school will be announced during finals, April 3 & 4, 2009. The winner will receive a set of Croker training sculls, courtesy of Croker Oars Ltd.
